| Perhaps she is sleep-walking! :-) Incidently, what is fashionable in Rome may not be considered so elsewhere. Ladies commonly wear rather body-conforming often quite short skirts/suits to work and even to church. This look is considered quite prim and professional in Rome. And, although bikinis are popular as women's swimming apparel at the beaches near Rome, the top half is not normally worn. Oddly, however, the rules in the city of Rome proper for appropriate dress, which are referred to as le regole di buon costume, stipulate that not even men may be seen in town and in public without a shirt on. Yet many of the billboards and street adverts feature lots and lots of nudity. Its a curious mix with acceptable nudity (both top AND bottom usually considered optional) for sunbathing at Rome's surrounding beaches, nudity on billboards and such, nudity on TV ads, but various seemingly contradictory cover-up rules apply in town. In fact (Scott Fairbairn typing) my wife Daniela would shudder when she saw me heading out into the Roman suburbs to walk the dog in bare feet! Ah, well, when in Rome... |
